“Much alike young Daniel Son in “The Karate Kid” I was struggling with water starts and longer, sustained rides before I had a lesson with Lawrence, a.k.a. the Mr. Miyagi of Cornwall Kiteboarding. I have had about a dozen lessons beforehand in the states but was visiting Cornwall and wanted to ride —- and made SO MUCH PROGRESS in a three-hour lesson with Lawrence.
I will say Lawrence’s instructions were both informative and encouraging at the same time, but the walky-talky headset that allows him to communicate with you WHILE YOU ARE RIDING was a game changer as he could give you real-time instructions while you are trying to ride. I think that helped me progress so much faster.
Anyway, Lawrence is also a top bloke (he was literally clearing the odd piece of plastic rubbish out of the water while we were out there) and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him for anyone who is a complete first-timer or just trying to get to grips with the basics a bit better as I was. Hey, I even rode upwind and did a turn mid-ride before the end of the lesson — both things I had never done before.

“Having watched my wife enjoy SUP for the last 4 years, I decided to give it a go myself. Lawrence is knowledgeable, unwaveringly positive and great at getting you onto the water and standing up in no time at all.
You get an overview of the kit you’re using, a solid grounding in basic technique and then it’s out on the water. The tips Lawrence provides all work well and all the class were quickly stood up and zooming around
The lesson I attended was on the lake at the Clowance Estate which was perfect for me as a complete novice.
One tip if you wear glasses - get a decent strap to hold them on. I had a strap on mine but it didn’t tighten enough and I lost my glasses when I fell in towards the end of the session. Typical of Lawrence’s care for his customers though that he spent a good quarter of an hour with a face mask on looking for my glasses in the murky depths.”

“First SUP lesson - awesome! If you’re looking for friendly but first class teaching, excellent equipment and a fantastic new hobby/sport, or just a fun time on the water this is the best thing ever! Lawrence is a fab combination of professional and yet approachable, I had never been on a board before and in less than 19 minutes was happily paddling around. Instruction was clear and understandable and the time just flew by. Only downside is that I am completely hooked and can’t wait to go again!!! Highly recommended.”
